A total of 89 players took part in this year’s King James VI Golf Week, sponsored by Ness Motors. Played over five days, Island members were joined by over fifty visiting players representing 19 clubs from as far afield as Shetland, Selkirk, and Whickham along-with regular visitors from other Clubs in Tayside and Fife

The recent spell of dry weather, coupled with the extensive drainage work undertaken in the last 12 months, resulted in the course being in excellent condition and drawing high praise from all who competed.  Nonetheless, despite the perfect golfing conditions experienced all week, most players, a few exceptions apart, found scoring difficult. Further proof that the The Island is a challenge for players of all abilities.

After qualifying rounds on Monday and Tuesday and a series of closely fought ties in the early rounds, the match play stages were largely dominated by King James players with 5 out of the 6 finalists being home players.

In the Scratch Final, the Island’s Drew Campbell prevailed against Jamie Carlin from Camperdown GC who was making his Golf Week debut. The Scratch to 12 Handicap Final featured 2 home players, Kevin Don and Robert Duncan, with Kevin maintaining his impressive week’s form to lift the trophy.  The 13 to 24 Handicap Final was also an all King Jimmy affair with Darryl Lindsay edging out fellow member Elliot Gray.

As well as main sponsor Ness Motors, King James VI GC is also indebted to The Famous Grouse for their continued support of the event. An outstanding success with all who took part, many players have already vowed to return next year and savour the experience and atmosphere of competing in King James VI’s Golf Week.
