Scottish Junior Success

By Rick Hannigan, 10th May 2010

King James’s Paul McPhee was joint top Scot at yesterday’s Date Lab Scottish Youths Championship at Monifieth. After making the cut on Saturday, Paul produced the best in the field score of 67 in the third round to elevate himself up the table, and kept the form going in the final round to finish joint second, behind German Maximilian Rotluff.

“I’d have settled for second at the start of the day because the conditions were like night and day compared to the first two rounds,” said the 18-year-old.

Paul leaves school next week and will play full-time over the summer before heading in August to Lynn University in Florida, where Gavin Dear and Keir McNicoll both developed into international-class players.

“Gavin was the one who put me in touch with the coach out there and I’m really looking forward to it, I know the facilities and the courses out there are top class,” add Paul.
