2010 prize winnersPictured are the winners of competitions at King James VI this year so far.

The 2010 Club Championship Finals were contested in glorious weather on a course in superb condition.

The Scratch Championship Final was between former King James Boys Champions Mark Macleod and Fraser Inglis. Mark began confidently with a birdie at the 1st and holes were then shared until a par at the 5th followed by four consecutive birdies left Fraser with a 4 hole lead at the half way stage of the first round. Wins by Mark with birdie at the 15th and par at the 18th were matched by Fraser’s birdie at the 16th and par at the 17th leaving Fraser going into lunch 4 up. Two early wins after lunch saw Mark gain a foothold into the match and by the 11th hole he had completed a remarkable turn around by taking a 1 hole lead. Fraser immediately cancelled this out by getting up and down from a greenside bunker for birdie at the 12th before Mark re-established a 1 hole lead in the closing holes. The outcome of the championship eventually came down to the 36th hole where Fraser suffered the misfortune of a hooked drive out of bounds. Mark almost followed him but a favourable bounce and a safe second just through the green left Fraser with too much to do and Mark clinched his first Club Championship title.

The Handicap Championship final was contested by David Cook (playing off 5) and Marshall Moyes (playing off  8). David chose the perfect day to record his lowest ever score round King James in the first round with an impressive scratch score of 68. Although Marshall did little wrong David’s front nine of 37 saw him establish a 2 hole lead and he followed this with a blistering run of 5 pars and 4 birdies (including birdies at the last 3 holes) to establish a commanding 6 hole lead at the end of round one. Marshall gave himself some hope by winning the first hole in the afternoon but David hit back immediately with a birdie at the second. Steady golf over the next 8 holes saw David close out the match and claim the title of Handicap Club Champion.
